This is the story of young Winifred "Winnie" Foster, who decides to one day run away from her controlling, harsh mother. As she crosses through the jungles, she gets lost. She meets a boy, Jesse Tuck, who takes her to his family. The Tucks are very kind and generous. They take Winnie in, treat her as one of their own. But soon after, Winnie finds out a compelling secret about the Tucks. She then must face the puzzling choice of whether to go back to her own life, or stay and live with this family. This book is great for 5th grade and above. Tuck Everlasting is a unique take on fantasy in a normal world. The imagery is dazzling, with one being able to envision almost every chapter. Tuck Everlasting explores deep and complex themes that the reader also can consider. You would like this book if you like… Little House on the Prairie, Hatchet, The City of Ember, or Anne of Green Gables. The book features suspense and a bit of fantasy while also incorporating a hint of romance.
