Faculty Review: The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett by Chelsea Sedoti

Lizzie Lovett, the formerly super popular gal from the local high school disappears without a trace. Lizzie and her boyfriend, Lorenzo, are camping, they go to bed, and when Lorenzo wakes up the next morning, Lizzie is gone. Hawthorne is the youngest in a hippie family and younger brother to Rush, who was close to Lizzie in high school. Hawthorn, however, HATED the very existence of Lizzie and everything she represented. However, since Lizzie disappeared, Hawthorn has become infatuated with Lizzie and with "Enzo", Lizzie's boyfriend. Hawthorn and Enzo traipse around town to uncover more details about Lizzie's disappearance. I would not universally recommend this book. Many YA novels are timeless, relevant to multiple generations and across time. This is not one of those books. Although this book could appeal to the teenage audience who enjoys coming-of-age fiction, I do not think it will appeal to a wider age audience. You may enjoy this book if you like… John Green's Papertowns.
