Student Review: Where The Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls

Image from the RRHS Catalog

A young boy named Billy wanted to hunt raccoons but he didn't have any bloodhounds. After saving up $50 (a lot money in the book timeframe) to pay for two dogs he walked through the mountains barefoot, to a train station where the dogs would be delivered. Billy hunted with his dogs for the next few years. He and his dogs entered a contest for hunting dogs. Fame and glory might be heading their way, but with reward comes sacrifice. I would recommend this book because it is heart warming. If you like adventure, this is the book for you. You would like this book if you like Old Yeller or My Side of the Mountain.
