Lina is a teenage girl living during the rise of Stalin. She lives in Lithuania at the time of Stalin's conquering of the Baltics. One night Lina, her brother, and her mother are taken from their home. They are forced onto old rail cars taking them from their home in Lithuania all the way to Siberia, stopping along the way at work camps. They are treated horribly and live in truly unbelievable conditions. Will Lina and her family make it out alive? Yes! This book is so beautifully written that you won't want to put it down. It is interesting to learn about something from history that is not as well known while following a good story. The reader gets attached to the characters which causes them to keep reading to find out what will happen next. It is pretty sad, but worth it for the amazing story! You would like this book if you like historical fiction, sad stories, and learning new things!
