Savannah's brother is the center of her universe. She schedules her life around him and tries her best to be the mother he doesn't have. So when her boyfriend calls her brother "a retard" Savannah stabs him in the hand with a pencil. In result, Savannah is sent to Brooks Academy, an alternative high school for those who are "not fit" to be in a regular high school. There Savannah makes two loyal friends and meets Cameron, a boy she finds herself being more and more attracted to. Savannah is scraping along through life--her ex determined to get his revenge and her aunt seeking to have custody over Savannah's brother and never let her see him again. With so many problems in her life rising, Savannah doesn't know how much longer she can take it until she breaks.Others should definitely read this book because of how real it is. The author doesn't do anything to sugarcoat the main character's situations and feelings. Each character's depth wrapped me in and made me feel what they felt. There were many times while reading this book that I felt the main character's struggle in my heart. The only thing I disliked about this book was that the love interest seemed to come to the rescue every time the main character was in trouble. Although the book gave off a cliche feel, it also captured struggles in life that many authors aren't able to. In short, once I started reading this book, I couldn't stop. You would like this book if you like… romance, realistic fiction, coming-of-age books, and character development.
