This book starts off by providing a look into the life of a teenage cheerleader, Hermione Winters, who is on her way to cheerleading camp along with the rest of her co-ed team. The team goes through the first week of the camp with only the normal struggles that usually come along with the intense two week long camp. During the first week, new friends are made, stories are told, and routines are practiced. The unexpected hits when it is finally time for the camp dance. The camp of twenty plus schools has a formal dance, held in the dinning hall, as a reward for the teams' week of hard work. When Hermione accepted the drink that was placed in front of her as she danced with her friends, she assumed that it was nothing more than a glass full of the punch that was being served to all of the students. After downing the contents of the cup, she began to look for a trash can to dispose of her cup. The stranger that offered to help her in her search seemed friendly. The next thing Hermione Winters knew was that she was waking up in a hospital with her best friend at her side. Due to Hermione's lack in memory, Polly, her best friend,is forced to describe the events of her rape to her best friend. As Hermione returns home from camp she is faced with the challenge of finding her rapist, deciding what to do about a pregnancy, dealing with her current boyfriend, and not allowing this event to define her. With the help of a therapist, her best friend, loving parents, a few good-hearted people, and a little bit of luck, Hermione is able to find peace and bring her case to a close. I would recommend this book to others because of its unique approach to a topic that can be described as hard and private. This novel creates a beautiful story of friendship and love as well as opening up the doors that sometimes hide the ugly truth about hardships faced by girls who are raped. It is an interesting and well written piece of work that people can greatly benefit from. You would like this if you like...fiction, drama, "hard" topics, and heroic main characters.
